On Monday, September 21, the Campus Activities Board (CAB) will sponsor the second concert in its fall concert series at the Lion’s Amphitheater located on campus between Boreham Library and the Vines building. Small Town Symphony, a contemporary folk band composed of UAFS students, will perform starting at 5 pm. Small Town Symphony also performed as the first band in the concert series, drawing over 100 attendees.
Micheal Phan, the mastermind behind the CAB concert series, was inspired by the fact that UAFS has proper facilities for concerts, but the facilities are often underutilized. According to Phan, there are many heavily advertised symphonic, choir, and classical concerts that take place on and off campus, but very few contemporary and informal concert opportunities.
Besides strictly musical motives, Phan hopes to make the concert series educational.
“With each event, we have to have a student learning outcome, so we try to partner with other departments. For this event, we are partnering with the music department to focus on music piracy issues.”
This semester will act as a trial semester for the concert series to determine what works and what doesn’t, with hopes that the series will become a tradition in the future.
The Campus Activities Board has two more concerts planned this semester on October 15 at the amphitheater and November 9 at the campus center fireplace. Stay tuned for more information on these upcoming events!
